Have you seen the show Dance Moms yet? Dance Moms is an American reality television series that debuted on Lifetime on July 13, 2011. Created by Collins Avenue Productions, it is set in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at the Abby Lee Dance Company, and follows children’s early careers in dance show business and their mothers. Dance Moms was renewed for a second season, which began airing January 10, 2012.
I just saw a couple of episodes, being home with my newly operated cat today, and I’m in total shock. And yes, I kept watching… I’m thinking that most of these have to be staged, because this cannot be the reality! I mean, everyone likes a little show featuring young dancers, dancing is very popular as an activity these days. But where does Lifetime want to go with this? A bunch of women acting out on each other’s and their children, there was a cat-fight in every episode I saw today. The show is more about the moms and their conflicts, than dance. And when it comes to dancing, why do six and seven year olds have to wear make up on stage? In my eyes, this is just another reality show like Toddlers and Tiaras, disguised to be about dancing.
The title is correct, though, it is about the dance moms… But their children are members of a small dance group under the head instructor Abby Lee Miller. She is made out to be a villain, the conflict often keeps in her range, but I do believe that she actually knows what she is doing, when it comes to dancing. About the rest; competitions among her students, the pyramid and her bad language, it is probably just to keep us watching the show.
But these children what about them? Are they on their way to stardom? I see the show has been on for a while, without me knowing that, so you might have some opinions on this…
